Before you write

Four things that make the first reply useful.

  • The standard. API 600, API 6D, API 609, ASME B16.34 — or the clause list from your own specification. This decides which mills are even eligible.
  • Quantity and rhythm. A one-off lot and a monthly release order are priced differently, and often made in different factories.
  • Acceptance criteria. Leakage class, coating system, NDT extent, documentation level — whatever your QA department will actually check.
  • The destination. Port or door, and the Incoterm you normally buy on. It changes the packing and the freight line, not the valve.
